"Excellent cancer care and support from BCH"

About: Allied Health (Bass Coast Health) Wonthaggi Hospital / Medical Specialists

(as the patient),

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was rapidly followed by two major surgeries, with complications (including being back in hospital for a third time) and now chemotherapy. It’s been an intense, traumatic journey in a short space of time. I have never been so weak and vulnerable.

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to BCH for supporting me, from my surgeon to breast nurse, physiotherapist and oncology team, to the beautiful volunteers running supportive wellbeing workshops. I will never forget the excellence of care and compassion I have received over this time. And it has barely cost me anything!

No, it’s not perfect. But my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I believe BCH is a shining example of our public health care system in action, striving for best practice and doing its absolute best to support people, at a time when they need it the most. Thankyou BCH, and keep up the great work!

Dear millimeterxe86,

You have a really powerful way to describe your traumatic year, and you articulate so well, the highs and lows of your journey. Thank you for taking the time in your busy and stressful world!

I am so proud that we now provide these services, when just a few years ago we didn't. Your story will mean a lot to those teams and individuals who have worked so hard to build our service to deliver this type of care locally. We will pass on your post to all the teams and individuals you have mentioned, and I know they will also feel really proud.

We would also be grateful, if you had the time, to chat with you so we can hear about the things that didn't go so smoothly, so that we can make changes to smooth things out for future service users. If you are interested in doing this, please call or text me on 0472 846 355, or email me at jan.child@basscoasthealth.org,au.

I hope that things are looking more positive for you, and thanks again for taking the time to share your experience.

Kindest Regards,

Jan
