"Emergency department staff"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My grandfather became unwell with sepsis recently. He ended up with sepsis and transported to Bendigo ICU.

I will be coming into the Emergency department to thank everyone.

Absolutely everyone I saw from doctors, nurses, nursing students, and every employee we came across treated Pa with the upmost compassion and care. They treated him like he was their own Grandfather.

The doctors and nurses explained everything to me in terms that i could understand.

Pa was in a resuscitation room and had a medical emergency whilst in there the staff acted quickly and ensured he was treated with amazing care.

I would like to thank each and every single staff member in the Swan Hill Emergency department earlier this month. I cannot name everyone but especially

Nurse Emma - who had so much compassion and outstanding knowledge. Emma is a great asset to the team in my opinion.

Amara is a nursing placement student who was new to Emergency department medicine and her bedside manner and her emotional support to myself and family was phenomenal. Amara was eager to get hands on and help doctors and staff.

Dr David was absolutely excellent, he explained everything that was wrong, treated Pa like he would have treated a family member. He was very kind, caring and compassionate. In my experience, he clearly cares about his patients and their families. He has outstanding bedside manner.

Jess was working in reception and was very supportive, caring and gave us regular updates when she could. I believe her compassion makes her great at what she does.

Dr Gerri came in just before Pa was transferred and was there when an emergency arose for my grandfather, he remained calm, concise and treated the situation quickly to ensure Pa did not deteriorate further.

Every single staff member we saw on went above and beyond for us to ensure we were well informed and our family member was stable and supported.

Thank you also to the 'Ultima' ambulance team and MICA unit that got Pa to the ICU in Bendigo.

We cannot thank everyone there enough for what they have done for our family. From the bottom of my heart i thank these heros.

Thank you

Thank you wearingwm64 for the lovely compliments! I have personally passed along your appreciation to the listed individuals who were delighted by your gratitude and recognition.

I am very proud of the entire team here in the Emergency Department as they work so incredibly hard and with such compassion. I am pleased to hear that the staff recognised the medical emergency your Pa was experiencing and acted accordingly - clearly involving him and yourselves into his care provision. We are always training and talking about sepsis - as it has such significant consequences if undetected or there are delays in receiving treatment. Our Safer Care Victoria quality improvement project involvement in 2018 continues to benefit both our clinical team and the wider community.

I hope your Pa's condition has stabilised and that he continues to get better. We are always here if you need further assistance. I am sure your Pa is getting lots of attention from you all and again thank you so much for the uplifting feedback for our team - it goes such a long way!

Kind regards,

Kath
