Presented to ED on a recent weekend with my toddler who had injured their arm while playing with their sibling. The arm was x-rayed, and we were told no fracture or break was evident by the Dr. We were discharged and given a brace to wear for comfort.
Later that afternoon we were recalled to the hospital after the radiologist reviewed the x-rays and identified a fracture. After another lengthy wait my toddler's arm was put in a plaster cast, we were told to keep on for 6 weeks and to follow up in the orthopedic clinic in a week.
The next morning, I woke up to several missed calls from a private number. After phoning the switchboard multiple times I was finally able to get through to the ED. A senior radiologist had reviewed the x-rays and found there was no fracture or break. I was asked to return with my toddler to the hospital to have the cast removed but elected to do this myself, as wait times are so long.
I believe weekend ED staff are friendly and kind but inexperienced. I would not return on a weekend.
