This is my experience of the standard of care given to me as a stage 4 cancer patient at FSH.
This last 12 months alone have been one different registrar after another, seeing my actual Oncologist once in 8 months. Knowing that they are very busy doctors, I feel does not excuse their treatment for a frightened stage 4 cancer patient.
I have had a multitude of problems the last 2 years and have had to source many different caregivers for pain management etc. none of which were offered at FSH. A new growth found in early this year, saw me sourcing a private clinic to get seen too. Wanting to discuss further with my Oncologist my impending operation and a recent Pet Scan that I had had, I was told my appointment had been cancelled.
When trying to speak to a cancer nurse I recall I was told that someone more in need then myself was given that appointment, (which by the way is fine, I would be the first to forfeit my appointment for an emergency), but they proceeded to tell me I was on 6 monthly reviews, (I have only ever been on 3 Monthly reviews).
Over my time with FSH I have had registrars tell me I have 2 weeks to live, how lucky I am to have this particular cancer and letters that are written by different registrars can't even get dates right of when I was Diagnosed stage 4. Also, appointments made to see Oncologists, sorry registrars, before Pet Scans are even done, this is an ongoing issue.
I am however grateful for the treatment of my cancer last year that has helped. But to sum up my several years with FSH Oncology Department, I really don't feel anyone cares about my care.
"Not caring about my care"
