Recently our Grandparent was brought to the Emergency Department, where it was discovered that they had suffered a brain bleed from which they were unlikely to recover. They were subsequently admitted to the Stroke ward under the care of Dr. Kevin the following day, and my Grandparent peacefully passed away in the early hours a week later. We would like to take this opportunity to provide feedback on our experience.
We were disappointed by the lengthy wait time in the Emergency Department, which was nearly 10 hours. My Grandparent arrived in to ED in the afternoon via ambulance following multiple falls at home. They were then escorted into the waiting area. They were not seen for another 10.5 hours. My Grandparent was scanned not long after and we were given the results around early morning. They were then transferred to the ward approximately 6 hours later.
Considering a stroke is a time-critical situation, they were potentially one of the sickest people in the waiting area.
However, once our Grandparent was on the stroke ward, our overall experience was largely positive. We felt that their needs were well attended to, and any issues or concerns we raised were promptly addressed. We were particularly appreciative of the fact that we were allowed to have a family member with my Grandparent at all times, ensuring their comfort during their final moments. The staff we encountered displayed a commendable level of compassion, attentiveness, and professionalism, which is a credit to the organisation.
We would like to give special recognition to Dr. Kevin's Registrar, Jay. Throughout our interactions with him, he consistently demonstrated professionalism, care, knowledge, support, and a generous allocation of his time. We were equally impressed by the exceptional care provided by Nurse Lindsey, who not only attended to our Grandparent's needs but also provided support to our family during the challenging days leading up to her passing. We extend our highest compliments and praise to both of them and kindly request that you convey our heartfelt thanks for their outstanding dedication.
