"Head injury"

About: Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had a fall onto ceramic tiles, knocked myself out, woke up in a pool of blood. Next day went to the hospital was seen by a doctor in ED who didn’t want to clean me up, so went to get a nurse, another hour later, doctor checked the wound said it didn’t need stitches put a gauze patch on the wound, a bandage around my head, said don’t wash my hair for a couple of days and sent me home!

4 days later still intermittent bleeding and feeling unwell! Went back to ED was seen by a fantastic crew of doctors and nurses, finally had a CT scan and all my vitals checked. Above and beyond treatment which I feel should have been done the first visit! A week later it was infected, was cleaned, stitched and antibiotics. Another brilliant doctor! Another week had stitches removed, apparently too early for a head wound! This was done elsewhere not the hospital. Another week another infection back to ED! Was seen by a doctor who told me to go home and soak the hair which was stuck to the wound, which was still weeping, told to then get someone to cut the hair around it, gave me antibiotics and antibiotic ointment to use. I found this useless as I couldn’t see the wound as it’s the back of my head!

Next the Wound Clinic! What a brilliant, caring knowledgeable group of nurses! They have restored my faith! Truly I don’t believe I would be feeling this well if it wasn’t for them. They saw me 3 times recently and hopefully the end is in sight! After 7 weeks I’m almost normal! So sorry to put in this report but I feel the right treatment on the first day could have prevented most of my issues! Thank goodness for the Wound Clinic!!!
