"My child's burn"

About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child burnt their hand, I tried to organise a call out doctor for them but they called roughly an hour after the booking to inform me that they wouldn't be able to send a doc to see them for that and that I would need to take my child to emergency.

Went to Armadale hospital, got triaged and now been left sitting in the waiting area for over 3 hours while multiple people come and go.

I feel this is incredibly poor duty of care and if I had known that my toddler child would be receiving more medical care if I had just stayed home and put cream on it then that is what I would have done tbh.

this is supposed to be a hospital and the staff are supposed to care, I could've sat around for hours and done nothing for it my self, but in my opinion that is negligence, and negligence is exactly what I felt my child was being put through.

I feel that my child wasn’t even being given the amount of care and respect that a piece of sand would seemingly get in this hospital.

I believe the home visit docs really need to be assessed for what else they could provide care for as at least my child would have been seen to and could have been asleep like they normally would be and not what I feel was pushed aside like a waste of space thats just in the way, left to be incredibly agitated and restless.

Dear DoomCookie

It is disappointing to read of the service you and your child experienced.

I am truly sorry for the waiting time you both endured.

I can only imagine how the lengthy wait in our Emergency Department would not have helped matters.

Please allow me the opportunity to investigate further.

I would be very grateful if you could contact the Consumer Liaison Office on (08) 9391 1153 or via email AKG_ConsumerLiaison@health.wa.gov.au.

Kind regards
