"Hysterectomy"

About: Armadale Hospital / Colyer Surgical & Medical Ward Armadale Hospital / Obstetrics & Gynaecology Outpatient Clinic Armadale Hospital / Operating Theatre & Recovery

(as the patient),

I had a hysterectomy at Armadale Kelmscott hospital.

After seeing many GPs and getting the brush off for years (it's natural, you have your underwear too tight, you're diabetic, you have a STD) I found a GP that sent me for scans, it showed fibroids, I was then sent to the hospital gynaecological who insisted I did not need a hysterectomy and they would do a curate as they were sure the uterus would shrink and if I had a hysterectomy I would have a scar, also at my age (middle-aged) I might want more children (as if) after, at the postoperative appointment they shuffled papers mumbling turned to me and I recall said that's it I’m now discharged. I looked at the nurse and they shrugged, I did not want to stay and almost ran out of the office.

5 years later after again going to the GP and I was not getting help so at a pap smear appointment I grabbed the nurses hand and put it on my expanded uterus she ran out of the room got the GP and he immediately referred me to a specialist.

I was scared the same would happen again.

After scans and other tests he put me on the operating list to be done ASAP I finally got a specialist who understood what I was going through and the pain I had was living with.

Everyone was kind before the operation and put me at ease, after in the ward the nurses were wonderful and could not have done more to make me feel comfortable the specialist came and made sure I was ok. The postoperative appointment everything was explained, I thanked him for his help.

I am grateful for the specialist Dr Lachlan for listening when others have dismissed my concerns and AK hospital for the care and compassion I received, thank you all.
