Recently, a blood blister on my child's back burst whilst they were reading at school. The school called me, as they could not stop the bleeding. I collected them and raced them to ED in Bunbury. My child was seen to quite quickly, for which we are very grateful, as it took 2 doctors almost 1 hour to slow the blood flow enough to be able to put super glue over the wound to prevent further bleeding. An artery has attached to a vein, that has then burst through their skin. To resolve/fix this, my child will need surgery they say at the ED in Bunbury, but in the meantime, since my child’s artery is now glued together, we can take them home and just drive the 2 hours to Perth if it bursts again.
I have never seen so much blood, or had a more traumatic experience, all round. I refused to go home, the fact they said to be prepared for it to burst again and rush my child to Perth, tells me we should seemingly have never been sent home in the first place. Now we are sleeping with my child, waking to check them every single hour, every night, just incase, constantly watching the wound site for signs of internal bleeding, and in the hope that a metropolitan hospital gives us a call to just see them.
Furious, anxious, just beyond belief. They thought they had to give my child a blood transfusion because of the amount of blood they lost, that afternoon we were sent home to manage them on our own. My child can't go to school, we cant go to work, no one can sleep. I feel this is an absolute joke of a hospital that serves the greater regional area, and just lost for words.
