Words cannot express how grateful we are of the whole Maternity team that supported us during our recent birth of our beautiful baby boy. 

Although completely unplanned and blindsided by the circumstances, staff did everything they could to ensure that me and baby were safe and our family felt supported and informed. 

Staff went above and beyond to try everything they could to that I was safe during delivery. 

From the moment I was wheeled through the emergency department doors I was greeted by smiles and people who were willing to help get me where I needed. 

On arrival to maternity ward I was swiftly taken into a room and the midwife and student began to examine and determine what was happening. The midwife pushed for doctors to urgently see me . Her quality of care was amazing! I wish I managed to get her name to be able to personally thank her! She was a EOC nurse travelling. 

Once things begun to progress and my labour was confirmed all teams were briefed and continued to ensure my support person and I was informed of the plan and options. 

Dr Sara was called in, she is amazing and I owe being able to meet my beautiful baby boy to her! Again she ensured I was given all the information to be able to make informed decisions about what was happening. 

The coordination of the team on that night was amazing and communication was definitely key. I know everyone would have worked through the breaks to ensure our little man was given the best chance at life. 

The Geraldton Maternity Team you are my heroes! 

They also arranged for me to be sent to another hospital via RFDS to be able to spend time with my son.

Thank you for reaching out to us on Care Opinion and congratulation on the birth of your son.

I was delighted to read of the excellent teamwork at Geraldton Hospital, that provided the safe care of yourself and delivery of your son. Our goal at WACHS is to always put the consumer at the centre of everything we do, and it is truly great to see that this is exactly what the Emergency Department and Maternity Ward has achieved for you and your family. As you rightly pointed out communication is so important, both between staff and with the patient and their families. I’m sure the clear communication was a key to you knowing you were in safe hands.

Your feedback has already been shared with the management team and they will ensure our colleagues who provided such patient centred care are acknowledged and thanked for the efforts.

I hope yourself and son are now back home and doing well.
