In the morning, after an eye operation at Sydney Eye Hospital, I was ready to be discharged, but one of the medications was not ready. Aldrich, who was my nurse that day, said not to worry as he insisted he would send the medication to my home. My wife was waiting in the car, and so off we went back to Winmalee in the Blue Mountains. At home that evening we were sitting on the back deck with my daughter and partner enjoying some cheese and a glass of wine when a head appeared over the gate. "Hello. I have your medication". Aldrich had travelled by train, passing by his home town of Blacktown, all the way to Springwood, whereupon he caught a taxi to Winmalee. I felt that act was far beyond the call of duty. I feel it is a wonderful example of the high standard of care, concern, friendliness, and dedication I found with all the staff I saw at Sydney Hospital. I had the good fortune to meet up with Aldrich again when my wife underwent hand surgery. Post operation, he was her nurse, and they were both delighted to see each other, as was I when I arrived at the ward to take her home. What an amazing, caring young man.
