I attended HHC for a blood test recently. When I was called through to have my test done the staff member did not introduce themselves or explain the process. I am also somewhat scared of needles so this did not help.
The only things they said were - take a seat, sharp sting, and to sign the paperwork at the end. The door was left open during the procedure, a single swipe over the area using the alcohol swab and 5 moments of hand hygiene were not followed (hand sanitizer was done, then draws and more items were touched, then gloves were placed on). They did not confirm 3 points of ID prior to the procedure, instead calling me after I had left to confirm my name (as I am recently married and the form had my maiden name, but the hospital system has my married name). My partner who was in the room was also surprised at this staff member's patient manner.
However, I will also commend the young gentleman (who was also working at the time) who did my blood tests last time I had a blood test as I felt his patient rapport and professionalism should be expected from all staff. So thank you to him.
