"Cardiology appointment"

About: Royal Perth Hospital / Cardiology Care & Clinic

(as other),

My spouse had an appointment at cardiology clinics RPH which they had waited 6 months for. After doing a 2 half hour journey, we got to the clinic, we were told their appointment had been cancelled that morning, I felt the staff member was not apologetic and was not bothered, that we had not received any notice of cancellation or how long we had travelled for, to be honest I felt they were hard to understand they then present us with another appointment for 4 months time. We feel it was complete disregard for elderly patient. 5 hours round trip as there is no train service from Armadale station. And now another 4 months for appointment. This took place recently.

Dear sagittace,

I am very sorry that you felt disregarded by staff at the Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Cardiology Clinic and the staff member involved did not appear apologetic or bothered when you explained that you had not received any notice of cancellation of your partner’s appointment and how long you had travelled for. The East Metropolitan Health Service values kindness, respect, and integrity and staff are expected to act in accordance with these values at all times. I apologise if this was not your experience.

Clinic staff normally make every effort to notify patients ahead of time when appointments are rescheduled or cancelled and I am sorry this did not occur. The Head of our Cardiology Department is disappointed your partner did not get the opportunity to speak to a doctor before being turned away and encourages you or your partner to contact RPH Patient Experience on (08) 9224 1637, 8am to 4pm or email RPBG.feedback@health.wa.gov.au to ensure they receive the appropriate medical treatment.

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion.

Kind regards

Ben Noteboom
