"Waiting in the ED"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Waited 3 hours then another 3 and half before I finally got to see a doctor. Between checking vitals was told to wait in another room with what I recall were blood stains on the ground, while I was there a nurse called my phone to check if I was still in the hospital. Then was told to wait back in another area. Where another nurse had to go looking for me again. Surely staff in the Emergency Department can have a better system. I understand it was truly busy but I believe there were people in the waiting area with extreme issues that were still waiting. Based on my experience, do better Geraldton Regional.

Dear craternh63,

Thank you for reaching out to us on Care Opinion.

I would like to apologise for the wait you experienced in the Emergency Department. All patients are assessed on their criticality and the more serious cases are allocated priority, unfortunately in a busy department that can result in extended waits for those in less urgent need of care. Your feedback has been shared with the hospital management team for review and action.

If at any time either you feel they are not receiving the care or treatment they need, we have a service at the hospital called Aishwarya’s CARE Call. You may notice posters about Aishwarya’s CARE Call in our Emergency Department – this is a 3-step process for patients, carers and family members to use if they are worried, or they, or a person they care for, are getting sicker in hospital. In the Midwest, no matter what hospital you go to this number is 1800 316 729 or you can find out more here at: WA Country Health Service - Aishwarya’s CARE Call

I do hope you are feeling better, I would be happy to speak with you to discuss your concerns in more detail and I can be reached on 08 9956 1966.

Kind regards

Rhonda Millar
