"Doctor shortage at hospital"

About: Collie Hospital

(as a relative),

My parent is in hospital in bunbury, they are on a medical ward receiving palliative care. There is no room in the palliative ward for them, they are on a waiting list to go in. They wish to come to our home town where there is a hospital and  a palliative bed for them but they cannot be transferred back to collie hospital as there is no doctor to take over their care.

We have heard that there is no on call doctor for the site over the long weekend and that if one was needed it would be one working remotely, which I feel is also concerning for a tourist area on a busy long weekend. Our usual GP no longer is working within the hospital either.

Dear squatkh38,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding doctor coverage at Collie Hospital.

I'm very sorry that our service didn't meet your needs on this occasion. Would you please give me a call on 0429 323 174 so we can discuss your particular circumstances?

Regarding having no Doctor on site in our Emergency Department, the majority of our ED shifts are covered by a local on call Doctor.

In the event that there is no Doctor available to be on call for the Emergency Department at Collie Hospital, the site utilises the WACHS Emergency Telehealth Service, which provides medical support for our team of Nurses and our Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner's.

We continually work to ensure Collie is staffed safely and appropriately to support our community.

Yours Sincerely

Barry Moroney, Director of Nursing
