"Suicide attempt"

About: The Prince Charles Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I spent around 9 hours in ED after an overdose waiting to be seen by mental health nurses to be 'assessed' only to be told the only thing id be getting out of it is a bunch of numbers for organisations... I have been begging for help for the last two years and had a huge decline in my mental health to the point I'm not taking physical action and self harming by OD.

I was voluntary at The Prince Charles but I also requested to be taken to another hospital but ambulance would not take me there from where I live. I'm at the point of no return and my episodes are becoming more frequent and lasting longer and longer to the point I can no longer control my emotions or actions. The staff were nice and accommodating but definitely I felt they minimised my situation and the status of my mental health. I am a NDIS participant and I have engaged with many services before and nothing has worked for me which is why I went to the hospital and it seems I have to be close to death to get help I seriously need. All they provided me with was a card and a number to call which does me no favours whatsoever.

I will have another episode and have left feeling more emotional than when I arrived and feel helpless and like I will never get the opportunity to live my life and be happy. I feel defeated and death is knocking at my door. I have not slept for 20 hours and am mentally and physically exhausted and now have to accept I feel I will never get better or get help unless I am near death and taken there involuntary. It seems to me they don't want to help anyone who admits themselves and is begging for help.
