"Disappointing service from Broome clinician"

About: Broome Community Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Feeling really disappointed with our asigned Paediatrician, through Broome hospital/ Dakas Street. I will not name and shame on this platform, but I have notified the Dr of my complaint.

I have been waiting over 6 months for them to action a referral letter for my child's Autism Assessment, along with a supporting letter for school, confirming diagnosis/assessment; to enable my child to continue receiving support at school.

After many back and forth emails, and attempts to ring this Dr at the hospital, I find out that it is still not done. Despite them saying they would on several occasions. Lets just say I have a large email trail......  I understand the wait times for Autism Assessment are lengthy and to find out this is now delayed a further 6 months, is heart breaking.

If I had the money I would now choose to go private, however I do not have this luxury financially.

Feeling really let down for my child 😪

Dear fireyt94,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I understand that you are feeling disappointed and let down that delays in accessing this important service is impacting on your child continuing to receive support at school.

I believe that the paediatrician involved has now had an opportunity to speak to you to offer a personal apology. As the Regional Director of Medical Services, responsible for managing regional specialist services, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that I have heard your frustration and will be working with the Kimberley paediatric team to improve access to clinic services, and streamline processes.

Feedback like yours helps us to recognise where the service may need to work on quality improvement, so thank you once again for taking the time to tell us your story.

Kind regards

Sue Phillips
