I had a planned C section at King Edward Memorial Hospital recently, with midwife support from Emma and Paula with MGP4 throughout my pregnancy and after birth.
The level of care from all staff I saw throughout my pregnancy, birth and post natal care was exceptional, and I'm very grateful. I really can't imagine that my experience could have been much better if I had paid thousands for private care.
This was my second pregnancy with support from MGP4 midwives and I feel very lucky to have had both experiences. It is really clear to me that having consistent high quality care from midwives that I knew made a really significant difference to my experience. My primary midwife was Emma who was unable to attend my birth but fortunately I had also spent time with Paula who was able to be there at birth. I was very stressed going in to the C section and I felt hugely relieved to see Paula's familiar face and to have her exemplary support during birth. Already knowing and trusting Paula made me feel secure and well cared for at a time when I was very vulnerable, and I relied on her a lot to calm me through the operation. Paula then did home visits and phone calls and I felt so comfortable and supported by her.
Emma was also exemplary throughout all of our interactions. I was very aware of the difference made by having a consistent midwife when my scheduled birth was delayed by a day. Emma had built a great relationship with me so I had 100% trust in her when she explained the reasons behind the change of date. Emma communicated with me as fast as possible and advocated my wishes to the day surgery team on my behalf. Overall, Emma made a really significant positive impact on my experience.
I would also like to specifically thank the exceptional staff I saw on ward 3. I felt 100% supported by all the midwives I encountered and other staff who cared for me and my baby. I would like to particularly thank Millie, Laura, Bonnie, Scarlet and Sarah. The ward was very busy during my stay but all staff did an excellent job of caring for all of my and my baby's needs regardless of this pressure. I was lucky to have some midwives on repeat shifts and it was fantastic to know that I was going to receive care from someone who I felt had done an excellent job at another time during my stay. It was Scarlet's first week as a midwife and I could not tell the difference between her care and that of the more experienced midwives.
I would also like to specifically thank the midwife who prepared me for surgery, she did an amazing job of reassuring me and calming my nerves. Also the doctor who spoke to me an hour or so before the surgery and then operated on me was amazing and I felt as reassured as possible knowing that she was my surgeon. I felt the anesthetist was also amazing and did an incredible job.
Thank you so much for this wonderful service!
