"My ED experience"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

How do I feel? Pretty angry! In my opinion, ED is a joke I went in with upper abdominal pain got told sit on red chair obs taken, I believe everyone can hear what was being discussed. I felt that all they wanted was to treat the pain not the symptoms! I believe pain is caused through symptoms, gave me oxycodone! For pain which I feel is absolutely nothing!

Sat there for hours while it seemed others who walked in much later than myself were going through! I asked why this was happening was told there fast tracked cause they had a fall!! Not good enough, in my opinion! I feel your ED is a joke!

I finished up walking out, went to see GP who wrote me a letter to another hospital was seen within 3 hours!!..This other hospital firstly tried to treat symptom then alleviate pain! Yes there is something medically wrong! I object to nurses doing obs speaking about what's wrong with you with a room full of people!.. I feel that this is the worst hospital within Perth!

Dear lynxbj38

I am very sorry to read of your experience in our Emergency Department. Pain is an important symptom that is taken into consideration when we are assessing it's cause and we prioritise treatment of pain for your comfort whilst waiting for assessment.

We have triage system in place that takes into account the time of a patient’s arrival and the severity of clinical conditions and unfortunately this sometime does result in a period of waiting. Please be assured that we do care about your care.

We would like to further investigate your presentation and concerns regarding confidentiality. I invite you contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on (08) 6152 4013 during business hours or via email FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au.
