"Lack of internet and television services"

About: Busselton Health Campus

(as a relative),

My spouse has almost been in Busselton Hospital for a month. At no time during their stay has the internet worked, nor do the televisions. I think this is a ludicrous situation in this day and age. I believe the nurses are suffering as patients are seemingly bored and angry, which I feel is not there fault as they do an excellent job. This month my spouse will have been in for over a month and I am expected to pay $77 or so. Why should I if the hospital are not providing these services. On the whole, I think Busselton Hospital is the best Hospital in the region, only spoilt, in my opinion, by long term issues such as this.

Dear marchbk76,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Yes, we are very lucky to have a hospital like Busselton and I am grateful that you and other patients and families remain positive about the service we are able to provide.

In regard to the televisions, I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that this is causing for your spouse and many of our patients. We know the value and comfort the entertainment units provide and please know our ICT and facilities team are working hard to find a solution.

The repair of the system does remain a priority. The team here will continue to escalate this to find a solution as soon as possible.

If I can assist with anything further, please don't hesitate to contact me on

Your sincerely, Dan

Update posted by marchbk76 (a relative)

Regrettably Dan, I will not be calling you as I think people need to know what is going on in the hospital. I feel your response is a standard one at best.

To say your ICT and Facilities team are working hard to fix this issue, I feel is a platitude and nothing else. In the 5 weeks my spouse has been in your facility, the system has never worked, and I believe it was like that before my spouse was admitted. In that time I feel your teams could have deinstalled the system and put a new working one in its place.

I have been informed by many people that this system is supposed to be a new all singing, all dancing system. Doesn't look like it to me.

My spouse will have been in your facility, as a patient waiting to move to a care home, for more than 35 days soon. I am then expected to pay $74.20 per day for nursing care, which is "equivalent to the daily rate of a government residential facility" (as stated in the letter I received from your hospital). I believe these facilities, unlike yours, have internet and TV's that work, so what portion of the $74.20 is for internet and TV so that you can seemingly take that off the daily bill.

Dear marchbk76,

It's taken some time, but we have a vendor on site installing a new system and replacing hardware to have our entertainment system up and running again soon. Again I'm sorry it's taken this long.

Please do contact our feedback team at swfeedback@health.wa.gov.au if you have any further queries.

Yours sincerely, Dan
