I went to my GP about a small lump in my neck and was shocked at the resulting diagnosis having barely been sick during my life. At 81 years of age, considering the possible consequences was terrifying.
However, the chemo treatment started in October under the care of the lovely Dr. Annmarie. I felt Dr. Annmarie explained everything clearly and put my wife and I to ease by advising we'd caught it very early at stage 1, so the prognosis was encouraging.
During the chemo sessions, I found the nurses to be extremely caring and with a great eye for detail. For example, when changing IV bags not just one, but two nurses checked my name and details of the treatment against my treatment plan. This I found to be very comforting.
I felt the volunteers who bring the lunches and coffee's were very compassionate and friendly.
I think the system worked really well, and everyone we encountered was capable and caring. I felt the home visit from the cancer nurse was very helpful and informative. And I found the phone contact with the nurses and it's ready availability was comforting.
"I was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma in late last year, it was a frightening time."
