"The hospital prevention team"

About: Broome Health Campus / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

On a night recently, I had multiple incidents of large blood clots in my extremely vibrant Red Urine.

I went to the E.D. the next morning and they ran numerous tests as well as a CT Scan. The inserted an indwelling Catheter attached to a urine bag and organised for me to come back for a Urology consult the following month and was then discharged.

The only problem was at home the Catheter was so long it dragged on the floor between my legs and I had to carry the Urine Bag everywhere I went including to the Clothes line.

The next day I was housebound and the next day as well , now I knew I couldn't exist like this until mid-month so I phoned and asked if I could have a shorter catheter and they said I would have to come back through Triage, this was impossible until the following day when my partner would be home I was almost besides myself being a prisoner in my Home, when Shortly before noon The Hospital prevention team phoned me and asked how I was  going; well I let loose told them about the 6 inches of Catheter dragging on the floor, how I couldn't drive or do anything and within an hour a Nurse Practitioner was at my house Changing the length of my Catheter, bringing me much needed supplies and basically being a sympathetic ear.

Unfortunately I got a phone call from the Hospital that due to the Pilot strike in W.A. the Urologist whom I was booked in to see the following day couldnt come up so I was rescheduled for the 1 month later !! Basically 6 weeks with an indwelling Catheter and for the whole of the 6 weeks the Hospital avoidance team would come around to my house at least once a week having a chat and bringing me fresh supplies.

I have been discharged from the Hospital Prevention team, but I just have to say a Huge thank you to them and what a Godsend they were in my life.

Thank you cassiopeiact94

Dear cassiopeiact94,

Thank you for your time and we greatly appreciate the feedback, we are extremely proud of our team and great to hear how they worked with you and solved concerns and issues.

It was unfortunate the Pilot strikes affected your clinical journey at the time, I will give feedback to the team.

This feedback is valuable to us as we strive to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.

Thanks again for your time.

Best regards

James
