"What has changed?"

About: PathWest Midland Collection Centre

(as a service user),

I think Pathwest Midland is in an absolute shambles. Every time I have been there for the past few weeks, I feel the wait times have been over an hour. This means I can't get my tacrolimus levels done as they can't be done 30 minutes after the time the blood test needs to be taken.

I have noticed that completely different staff now work there. I found the original staff, who I felt were highly efficient, are missing. What has changed? I think there is something very wrong if two staff can only see three patients within almost an hour.

I feel this has rendered Midland Pathwest completely unusable for me. I don't have time to wait an hour and a half and I don't have time to have wasted visits.

Dear Falling Through the Medical Cracks,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback about our service at PathWest, Midland. I am very sorry to hear that our service did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

Our staff do work very hard to provide you with a prompt service however some tests do take longer than others and, depending on the number of patients attending our rooms then, from time-to-time there unfortunately may be a short wait, especially first thing in the morning when many patients attend for their fasting tests.

However, some tests do get priority on the normal first-come, first-served basis, so please feel free to let our staff know that you have a time-sensitive Tacrolimus test when you next attend our rooms.

Our website PathWest - Locations (health.wa.gov.au) also provides a list of alternative collection centre locations that might also be convenient for you.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback.

With kind regards,

Suzanne

Update posted by Falling Through the Medical Cracks (a service user)

Suzanne, every other time I have asked if I could have priority throughout my transplant (at other Pathwest collection centres), they refuse to do so and tell me to wait in line. So your answer isnt helpful to me. Also, I feel you have failed to answer why a complete new set of staff are there and why they are seemingly so slow.

I felt I got raked over the coals by my medical team for not having the blood test done. I was in tears because it is out of my control due to what I believe is your failure to adequately staff the centres with experienced staff.

Would you care to explain to my team why I cant get my blood tests done? Because I am done explaining to them and getting all the blame. I am done getting blood tests. In my opinion, enough is enough!
