Had heart failure recently. Diagnosis a bicuspid valve with severe stenosis. Asymptomatic all my life, incident occurred in my late 50's. Open heart surgery (OHS) replacement of valve. Mentally it was challenging, I was confused and concerned over why I should get the operation.
Seeked support (as I felt there was none offered by the cardiologist or surgeon) and found the support via an advertorial in the Busselton local paper. Contractual comfort / reassurance about having the surgery. After the surgery, phone support was still available. Cardio Physio was great to be a part of, as I could liase with other people with OHS and get the confidence in getting back to my sporting activities with the physio. Only negative was the waiting time to be part of the cardio-physio program.
