"Sydney Eye Hospital"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had a severe eye infection and went to Emergency at Sydney Eye Hospital late afternoon. Not too many in the waiting room so moved through the various stages efficiently but recommend you take a book to read, as the phone charging machine didn't work for my iPhone and it became a long night because of the emergency intravenous treatment (which worked a treat).

Staff was mostly pleasant; nurses were practical and efficient. I believe a little more skill development on inserting cannulas would be a worthwhile nurse training session.

I think Dr Nigel gets the gold medal for carefully and painlessly putting in the cannula for the antibiotics and Dr Niko and Dr Nigel both gave excellent information and explanations and answered questions.

Our family very successfully used the Hand Clinic before, and the Sexual Health Clinic has helped friends. I feel those of us who work in the city are very fortunate to have a small, little-known hospital so close.

Dear charawr98

Thank you for your honest reflection of your recent Emergency Department visit. We appreciate the feedback on improving nursing staff skills and equally welcome the positive sentiments of the nurses, Dr Niko and Dr Nigel. We will share this with the staff and the rest of the Emergency Department team. The Nurse Unit Manager will follow up to fix the issue with the phone charger, so our patients have full access to their phones.

We are glad to hear you responded well to the intravenous antibiotics and thanks again for taking the time share your experience with us.

Kind regards

Dr Pauline Rumma

Director of Clinical Services
