"Grandma's first time in hospital in over 67 years"

About: Wyong Public Hospital

(as a carer),

My fearlessly independent 98-year-old Grandma had a fall at home 2 weeks ago. She was keen to go home but really needed to stay and while sadly she died on Saturday, she was so impressed by Wyong hospital and the Ambos.

This woman hadn't been a patient in any hospital for 67 years when she gave birth to my dad. (nor seen a GP for over 30years).

She was scared about the health system, the horror stories on the news, and past experiences of being a visitor.

So once she experienced a more patient-centered-care approach, it made her 2 weeks left a much better experience under the care of the ED, 2C, 3C and the Palliative team.

She did get agitated and distressed in her last few days on being on EOLP, but the nurses on 3C and the Palliative team really helped her to be comfortable and at peace when she died. Discussing with her and my dad/me with what could be done and how we felted about said choices.

My dad and I just wanted to give our heartful thanks and gratitude to all who looked after my grandmother. While it wasn't possible to have her die at home or had more time left on this earth, she wasn't alone and wasn't forgotten.

Thank you.
