I broke my back when i was 16. Am now in my late 40s. I have no feeling in my right foot and wear a splint 24/7 to help me walk. I had a blister that became very infected, We live in the Wheatbelt of WA. so hospitals and DRs are along way drive away. So i tried to care for it myself as i work fulltime and drive trucks and earthmoving equipment so work is always very busy .{and im not a dr or hospital man at all}.
I drove to Albany ED on a public holiday evening and they assessed me and admitted me into hospital and started looking after me straight away. They told me after the surgeons came to see me i was probably a day or 2 away from loosing my toe or even my foot. Discharged after 3 days of what I felt was absolutely amazing care from Albany Hospital. Everything was explained in easy understanding language. Staff I saw were amazing, even tho it seemed they were way understaffed.
Aftercare was at Albany Podiatry in the hospital fortnightly visits , Thankyou to Tep and staff, I felt it was awesome service and care and understanding. and redressings alternate weeks at MT Barker Hospital. Thankyou to Liz .. Overall I had 10 weeks of care. I can't thank all involved in my care enough. Everyone involved saved my toe and foot.
We had 3/4 hr round trips for these visits and everyone involved were amazing, to me and my family involved.
