About: Morawa Perenjori Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

We have an amazing Paediatrician who visits Morawa to support our children through some of the most difficult times in their life as they navigate mental and physical issues daily. I believe Dr Omid is an asset to our medical field and without his extensive knowledge my child would not be where they are now.

After years of persisting with many doctors we walked through the doors of Dr Omid's office and he immediately gave us the answers we had been searching for. In my experience, he not only provides treatment for these kids but pours his whole heart and soul into forming strong relationships where they all like, love and trust him. I believe this is a crucial element when working with babies, children and teenagers. My child felt incredibly comfortable in the room and was able to be themself which in return made the diagnosis straightforward without the need to mask certain behaviours/emotions which would normally happen in unfamiliar environments.

To have this service is nothing short of astounding however i have been failed many times by the health department for lack of visits we have received in clinic. I have rung on many occasions only to be told “there isn't any dates booked” then to find out later down the track that there were dates booked but i wasn't phoned for an appointment.

There were a few occasions i was made aware of visitation dates however my child was too far down the list to make the cut and thus I could be waiting several more months. I was refused treatment through our local doctor as my child needed management through a paediatrician.

Basically I'm left with a child that hasn't had any follow up appointments in 8 months, and previously prescribed an S8 drug which has many side effects on the human body especially a child of such a young age. Where is our support in regional towns for the health and wellbeing of our children?

I believe we have such incredibly skilled professionals like Dr Omid, but without regular visits how is the management of care attained accordingly?

I think our WA health department is abhorrent and needs remediation immediately for the health and well being of our community.

Dear Change for Children,

Thank you for reaching out on Care Opinion and sharing your experience with us.

I was pleased to read of the positive impact the paediatric outreach clinic has had on the treatment of your child, something you indicated you had been searching for. We thank you for acknowledging Dr Omid in your search for answers.

I am pleased to inform you that we have increased access for the Morawa Paediatric Outreach Program to include nine visits per year. Should you have difficulty accessing timely appointments for ongoing treatment we encourage families to see their GP. Your GP will provide an update to the outreach clinic who may request an earlier appointment for your child.

I would be grateful if you would consider speaking with me, so I can listen to your concerns in more details and ensure we are doing all we can to immediately support yourself and your child. My name is Lisa Pinkney, I am the Acting Operations Manager Geraldton Hospital. I can be contacted on 9956 2369 or you can email me at geraldtonopsmanager.wachs-midwest@health.wa.gov.au

I do hope I hear from you and we can ensure your child is fully supported.

Kind regards

Lisa Pinkney
