I have been to Joondalup health campus several times as a patient and as a visitor. To both the private and public side. Most recently I have been to H3 which is a private orthopaedic/surgical ward. While there I noticed a severe lack nurses of one gender on that ward and from observations by myself and my partner I can more than guess why. Bullying appears to me to be rife on H3. The one nurse of the specific gender who appears to work there regularly, looks to me to be the target of gender based discrimination and bullying. From all observations they appear to be a diligent worker, with a compassionate approach. My partner and I have observed a group of nurses actively bullying this nurse, either by verbally berating them or refusing to assist when asked for help. I am shocked to have seen such behaviour from staff who are supposed to be in a caring role. I’m hoping that the nurse leaves the apparent bullying and toxic environment soon and goes to a hospital or ward where I feel they will be appreciated.
