"My recovery journey at Shanty creek (Lives lived well)"

About: Shanty Creek Residential Rehabilitation Facility

(as a service user),

I have used alcohol to suppress my childhood trauma but then noticed at 52 years of age is that alcohol has been a continuous drain affecting my whole life and my relationships. Recently I have educated myself and practiced mindful to control my emotions to train my mind to think better. During the last 20 yrs I have neglected my health by continuously drinking and playing the pokies. Then an opportunity came while sober to get some help with alcohol and gambling. Lives Lived Well answered my desperate call to get better so they took me up to Shanty Creek rehabilitation facility for a 3 months program to sober up. It was the best thing i ever did and now i am at the end to go back into the real world to use the tools that they gave me. I am now on medication tablets which i have neglected for most of my life as i am a diabetic. I am also taking Anxiety medication as it is better helping me to focus and read books. I have now a better focus on my life and where i wish to be. I will be writing a book about my journey and will endeavor to write a book about my journey through recovery.

Dear Mistermon,

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It's always so great to read the positive outcomes from people who acknowledge their substance use and take positive steps to change their lives.

Congratulations on nearing completion of a 3 month stay at Shanty Creek rehabilitation! You should be very proud of your achievement. It's good to read that other aspects of your life have also been addressed (diabetes and anxiety). Take the tools you have been given to continue the good work on your journey of abstinence from substances and pokies!

All the best for your book and always remember to reach out if you need additional support.

Regards,

Lara

Thank you Lara,

I should have been to rehab a long time ago but mentally I'm glad it happened.

Kind regards

Mistermon
