"Surgery Cancellation"

About: Bunbury Hospital / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the last minute cancellation of my scheduled surgery at the Bunbury Regional Hospital.

After traveling 140kms to reach the hospital, making the necessary work arrangements and fasting as per the pre-operative instructions, receiving the news of the cancellation after having been admitted into hospital was incredibly disheartening. Not only did this inconvenience me greatly, it has also caused disruption to my employment as leave was booked for the necessary recovery time and a replacement was organised.

While I understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, such as emergencies or scheduling conflicts, I believe I should not be disadvantaged by being placed back onto the waitlist and not having my surgery scheduled until another 5 months later after having waited six (6) months already.

As a patient, I value transparency, respect and consideration for my time and well-being. I trust that steps will be taken to improve the system and processes to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and resolution.

Update posted by deploymenthx89 (the patient)

I am writing to express my deep concern and dissatisfaction regarding the repeated cancellation of my scheduled Gynaecological surgery at Bunbury Regional Hospital. My surgery has now been cancelled at the last minute for the second time in 30 days, causing me significant distress and inconvenience.

The initial surgery was scheduled for early last month, but was cancelled after I had driven 140kms to arrive and was admitted into theatre. Despite understanding that unforeseen circumstances can sometimes arise, I was assured that this would not happen again. Consequently, my surgery was rescheduled, only to face another last-minute cancellation.

These cancellations have severely disrupted my personal and professional life. I have arranged time off work, organised for post-operative care, and prepared mentally and physically for the procedure on both occasions. The repeated cancellations not only cause logistical and financial burdens but also contribute to my anxiety and stress regarding my health condition.

I now seek assurance that my surgery will be prioritised and not subjected to another last-minute postponement. It is imperative that the hospital understands the impact of these cancellations on patients’ lives and takes steps to improve scheduling reliability and communication.

I hope you can address this matter urgently and provide a solution that will restore my confidence in your facility. I expect to hear from you promptly regarding the rescheduling of my surgery and the measures being taken to prevent such issues in the future.

Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I look forward to your swift response.
