"My birthing experience with the indigenous midwife service"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice (Aboriginal MGP)

(as the patient),

For my pregnancy I wasn’t going to have a midwife as it’s normal not to have one in my family. So at first I was really hesitant and nervous to have one but after meeting Elly in my first appointment she made me feel so comfortable to the point where I wish I had the opportunity to meet with her earlier. Elly even introduced me to another midwife just in case she was unavailable on my due date so at least I still had someone I knew and was comfortable with when the day came.

Elly made sure to keep me up to date with everything and gave me all the necessary information I needed to know and I loved hearing my infants heart beat at every appointment. My main goal was to have a completely natural birth and possibly a water birth, this was all made sure it was going to happen but unfortunately do to unforeseen circumstances on my end things changed and I ended up giving birth in the shower which was actually very helpful. During giving birth I did feel like giving in due to how painful it was but having Elly right by my side saying all the right things and reassuring me that I can do it and sticking to the plan, I did it and I’m so thankful because it also made me feel proud of myself. I would highly recommend and I will definitely be using them for my second child when the time comes.

Dear greents75,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for sharing about the care that you received with Elly and the Aboriginal Midwifery Group Practice (AMGP). It is wonderful to hear that you felt so comfortable and safe after feeling hesitant, and I’m so pleased that you are able to look back on your birth and feel so proud of yourself! We’ll be sure to let Elly know how much her support and dedication meant to you, and that because of her, you would return to the AMGP service for your next pregnancy.

Wishing you and your family all the best,

Warm regards,

Delaney
