About: Rockingham General Hospital / Social Work

(as the patient),

Upon my Discharge from the Rockingham Hospital, after my Left Hip Operation, I already had Silver Chain attending to me (prior to Hip Op), to change my Ulcer dressings on both my feet 3 days a week, this continued after the Operation, on Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

So that I would be able to have a shower twice a week, the Social worker came & saw me, before being discharged & informed me, that they had organised another organisation, to come & see me on the Tuesday & Thursday, to assist me with having a shower, as i required both of my feet to be bagged & taped, so that my dressings on my Ulcers would not get wet, i was unable to bend down & do my Left Foot after the Hip Op, well the first Tuesday came & went with no helper, the Thursday came & went with no helper, & to this day no helper.

As a result of having no help with showering, I was forced to take risks with my hip, when taking a shower, as I had to bag & tape, both feet to keep dressings dry, which required me to try & bend, as far forward, putting myself in extreme pain, to get the bags on my feet, & tape them up.

I had Physio come & see me at home, on the 1st Monday home, as she was more than happy with my Rehab exercises, she said she would come see me the following week, of which she did.

I was very annoyed, as there should have been someone helping me shower, it made me feel useless not being able to shower by myself, & put me in more pain, which was supposed to be avoided.

You will have to check with the Rockingham Hospital Social Worker, who they had organised to provide this service, to assist me with having a shower twice a week.

Dear hekarq56

Thank you for your feedback. Please accept my apology that after your Left Hip Operation, you didn’t receive the full support that you were expecting to assist you at home. I can appreciate your annoyance at not being able to shower yourself. I am aware that our Social Work team have been in contact with you directly and I understand that your suggestions on how we can learn from your experience are being included in the process review our Social Work team are now conducting. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention.

Kind regards

Clive Mulroy

Hi Clive Mulroy, thanks for taking your time to respond to my story, & for the apology, 1 of your Social Workers has been in touch, & we had a very productive & informative conversation, also an apology from her on behalf of the Hospital.

The main thing from a situation like this, is that we learn from this, & make changes to make sure someone else doesn't suffer.

After running my own Security Company, here in Perth & Tasmania, part of my job was to assess our Policies & Procedures, & to assess possible Risk factors, by putting myself in to the shoes of Criminals, & think like they would.

I told the Social Worker, that if she wanted to contact me in the future, she was more than welcome.

Thanks again for contacting me, maybe in 6 months or so, when I'm having my other Hip Op done, you might pay me a visit in Hospital lol, only joking

Bye for now
