"Being forgotten"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Cardiac Angiography

(as the patient),

Three years ago I had an angiogram at Fiona Stanley the treatment by staff was excellent, but after the angiogram the Doctor suspended my commercial drivers license till further review of my heart problem. I received a letter saying I was a category 1 urgent patient that was 3 years ago. That was the last I have heard , I lost my job as a driver as I have not had any reviews or appointments with Cardioligy. I am collating my information and correspondence to escalate my problem.

Regards

Dear stardm35,

I am disheartened to hear about your experience with the FSH Cardiology Service and that you have lost your job. It is clear that this situation does not align with our commitment to providing exceptional, patient-centred care, and is not reflective of the values we thrive for.

I invite you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013 during business hours or via email FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au with your information to allow us to investigate this further.

Kind regards

Neil Doverty

Dear stardm35,

Thank you for contacting our Patient and Family Liaison Service to allow us to investigate your experience further.

I understand that you were initially referred to us by a private cardiologist. We then sent you a letter for a Category 1 angiogram which was completed within the required 30 days. I appreciate your kind words about the staff who completed that test.

Our records show that a discharge summary report was sent to your cardiologist with a post-operative report recommending a follow-up with your cardiologist. I understand that following this, you had that follow-up with your private cardiologist who referred you back to FSH for further testing which was completed. At this point, I understand that standard practice occurred, whereby your ongoing care reverted to once more being managed by your private cardiologist. I am sorry if this was not communicated to you clearly.

As I believe you are aware, there are medical criteria that one is required to meet to hold a commercial driver’s licence. I would have expected your cardiologist to have discussed this with you when they assessed your eligibility and during subsequent regular reviews. I can appreciate the impact that the suspension of your commercial driver's license has had on you, and I am sorry you have experienced this. It can be challenging to deal with an ongoing medical condition, especially one that impacts you professionally.

I commend you for maintaining ongoing appointments with your private cardiologist. As your ongoing specialist, they will be best placed to determine if a review is appropriate at this stage. I encourage you to continue to be proactive in managing your health and wish you all the best.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty

Update posted by stardm35 (the patient)

Thank you for getting back to me, it is much appreciated. Unfortunately I don’t have the funds to continue seeing a private Cardiologist. Being out of work these last 3 years we have run out of funds.

I am now reliant on FSH cardiology.

Warm Regards

Dear stardm35,

I am pleased to learn that following your angiogram here at FSH, your outpatient appointment with FSH Cardiology has been booked for later this month. You should have already received our letter informing you of this.

I am certain that the FSH Cardiology service will continue to provide you with the best and safest care and I wish you all the best for your continued journey with us.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty
