"Amazing care post birth and severe mastitis"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Maternity and Newborn Services

(as the patient),

I’ve recently birthed at Geraldton Hospital. The care during and after delivery was amazing! The staff really listened to my concerns and helped me feel at ease.

9 days postpartum, I developed severe mastitis. I was readmitted for 5 days for treatment. Although it was a horrible thing to go through, I had the most amazing team treating me and supporting my recovery. I really felt as if they were genuinely invested in my recovery- it wasn’t just another day on the job. A win for me was a win for them.

My newborn was able to board with me for the 5 days and everyone was so loving towards him and helped care for him to support my healing. I could focus on resting knowing my son was in the best hands.

Upon discharge I was linked in with WACHS lactation consultant- Di. She has been one of my greatest supports during this journey and a huge advocate for me.

It has been a long road to recovery but I have finally healed.

Our breastfeeding journey hasn’t been the easiest, however we have been well supported by not only Di but Shannon and Temika from the community allied health feeding team.

A heartfelt thank you to the midwives, ED staff, the PSA’s, the sonographers and the allied health team!

I am so grateful to have had access to many amazing practitioners and care staff. It gives me great peace of mind knowing that they are there if my family or I ever need them in the future.
