"adapting to life with a stoma"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Kalgoorlie Outpatient Clinic

(as the patient),

I recently had emergency surgery for a problem with my bowel, resulting me receiving a stoma. Everyone involved in my care was fantastic. However, this was a major change and I found it extremely difficult to adapt. Resmi wound and stoma nurse was very informative and supportive throughout this adjustment period. This is a service that I believe is required in regional areas as face to face assistance is invaluable when confronting live changing events of this nature.

Dear intensitycw53

Thank you for reaching out to tell us your story. I am sorry to hear about your recent health journey. However, I am pleased to hear that the acute services that we provide for stomas, such as the dressings, were of a high standard. I will be sure to pass your thanks onto Resmi.

I can only image how difficult it must be to navigate and adapt to this kind of change. The Western Australian Ostomy Association is the organisation in WA that provides the services to support and improve the social, emotional, physical and psychological welling being for ostomates and their families. You can find more out about this organisation at waostomy.org.au, including details about the next support ground being held here in Kalgoorlie.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us on 9080 5817 or via email gsegcg@health.wa.gov.au if we can be of any further assistance.

Kindest regards Alicia
