About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I was very ill with abdominal pain and vomiting in the morning recently

I went to the Swan Hill District Health Emergency Dept very early that morning just as the team were changing over. I was treated with care and respect and taken to a room straight away. The nurses were caring and provided me with warm blankets and i was given full attention. I had come in on the tail of the night staff leaving therefore waited a few minutes until the new team came on, i was still attended frequently and asked if i was in considerable pain and given every attention.

My nursing team ( one nurse in particular stood out) her attention to concern and care was the best i have had in years. Then the doctor who had arrived for the morning shift arrived and straight away i was looked after and put through several tests to identify my issues, so very thorough and she explained details so well.

I was there for around four hours and all the while the nurse and the doctor were in and out of my room to ensure my needs. I think the ED dept derserve praise. I now have a diagnosis of a condition i was unaware of and can move forward with treatment. Thank you to SHDH ED for the wonderful time and care put in to achieve this outcome.

Firstly, I hope you are feeling much better and that your treatment plan is progressing in all the right ways.

Thank you for the kind feedback, it's so lovely to read that your experience in our ED was positive and that staff showed such kindness and compassion. It sounds like multiple staff - including those that were perhaps very tired at the end of a 9-hour night shift, listened and responded to your needs at the time. It's also nice to know our efficiency was balanced well with good communication and that you received an answer to your symptoms. I am proud to read our care was not lost in what has so far been a remarkably busy month in the ED.

Thanks again for taking the time to let us know about your experience - I will be sure to pass this along to our team over the next few days. It's always a great boost to our extremely hard-working team.
