"Patients smoking directly under no smoking signs."

About: St George Hospital

(as the patient),

Seriously something needs to be done about patients smoking directly under no smoking signs at the hospital entrance. I was trying to get into a vehicle out front being collected after 2 months in hospital with pneumonia pluresy and near respiratory failure. To have to breathe in all the cigarette smoke.

There was a patient in a wheel chair smoking 1 meter from our vehicle. Our entire vehicle stank of smoke. This was such a huge health risk for me with my respiratory and other complicated issues such a weakened heart, Leukaemia etc.

Please do something about this St George as smokers all around the main entrance is not acceptable to the health of other patients. Kindest regards

Dear Vandly@72,

Thank you for bringing to our attention the issue of patients smoking near the no smoking signs at the front entrance of St George Public Hospital.

I want to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and discomfort this situation caused you, especially after your prolonged hospitalisation. Your frustration is completely understandable, and I regret that you had to endure such an experience.

Maintaining a safe and healthy environment is a priority for us, and we strictly enforce our no smoking policy with clear signage and regular patrols by our Security Officers. Despite these efforts, addressing smoking remains a persistent challenge. We continuously explore additional measures and provide alternative therapies to support patients who rely on smoking as a coping mechanism during their hospital stay.

Your feedback underscores the importance of our ongoing efforts to improve. Please be assured that we take this matter seriously and are committed to finding effective solutions to mitigate these incidents.

Thank you once again for sharing your concerns. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we strive to enhance our policies and practices.

Warm regards,

Ange Karooz
