"Monitoring system MOETS"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Maternity and Newborn Services

(as the patient),

I gave birth recently and needed an induction, all the staff were amazing but the monitoring system MOETS that watch the CTGs over W.A negatively impacted my birth experience. I wished to be active in labour though had difficulty monitoring the fetal heart at times. I was reassured as I had a normal trace beforehand, lying on the bed and wanted to go in the shower. MOETS kept calling the labour room to get the midwife to fix the fetal heart monitor and she tried to several times. I declined getting out of the shower at this time and risk was discussed. Though MOETS kept calling to speak to the midwife. I could hear the phone constantly. I felt like I was treated like a textbook and not a labouring mother.

Dear GERng83

On behalf of everyone at Geraldton Hospital may I offer our congratulations on your new arrival.

I was sorry to hear that not all aspects of your experience were positive and wish to offer our apologies for this. MOETS provide an invaluable service supporting the Midwest Midwifery team and ensuring positive outcomes for our community, especially in situations such as yours. I wish to assure you, your feedback has been shared with the MOETS team and we have already commenced discussions and reviews as to how we can improve the processes for phone interactions with local midwives so they are not disruptive for women receiving care. We all seek to continuously improve the support given to mothers and babies in our community. I would be grateful if you would consider contacting me so I can listen to more of your experience and ensure that your feedback leads to meaningful outcomes. My name is Cameron Ross, I am the Operations Manager at Geraldton Hospital, I can be contacted on 9956 2369 or geraldtonopsmanager.wachs-midwest@health.wa.gov.au
