On a recent weekend, while camping with my child, I had an accident involving a fish hook being lodged in the side of my face. The barb was lodged quite deeply in my flesh. I looked online to find the nearest care facility which was Augusta Hospital. It advertised as 24-hour care and emergency, so I drove myself along with my child to get attended to.
Upon arrival, I found a triage nurse that welcomed me and informed me that no doctors were available onsite. The nurse instructed me I'd have to drive to Margaret River Hospital if I preferred a doctor to attend to my injury. I took this option and drove 30min back in the direction of where I came from then a little further again to where I was able to get assistance and seen to by a doctor. The staff at both sites were very caring, friendly and efficient. 10 out of 10 rating to the staff.
What was disappointing, was the fact that Augusta hospital was the closest facility, it advertised as 24-hour emergency and upon arrival there was no doctor onsite. In this instance, it was not so much concern, however if it was my child in an emergency, or a more serious event for someone else that needed attending to, to drive to the Augusta hospital only to be told to drive to another hospital was very concerning and disappointing. Please consider this when allocating after hours doctors at these sites.
