"Lack of care"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

This was the worst experience ever! I went to this hospital due to continued heavy bleeding and severe pain weeks after my miscarriage. My hcg was going up after my miscarriage and the continued bleeding had me worried and my last pregnancy was a molar pregnancy, so I was really worried.

Got there 5pm they did my blood test got told to wait for the doctor for an hour to hour and half, they put me back on the waiting room and we waited 5 hours! Nobody there bothered to see me and tell me whats going on! I asked 3 different midwife of anyone can see me as i had a sick child at home waiting for me.  They kept saying I was next but hours went by and people kept going in before me.

I asked for the result of my blood test and they wouldn’t tell me. They made us wait for 5 hours for absolutely nothing! We ended up leaving.

Having a miscarriage is hard enough emotionally on someone, let alone having it drag on for 4 weeks with constant heavy bleeding and having so called professionals offer no help. The lack of care I felt is absolutely disgusting from your nurses and doctors.

Dear Patrs36,

I am incredibly sorry to hear about your experience at the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) Emergency Centre. I would like to express my condolences for your loss, and I offer my apologies for how this visit added to your distress at such a difficult time.

It must have been incredibly frustrating to wait for so long, particularly while you were in pain and with a sick child at home waiting for you. In our EC, sicker patients are prioritised and this may explain why other patients who arrived after you were seen more quickly. This is no excuse for the lack of care you felt, and I’m sorry this was your experience.

If you feel comfortable doing so, I encourage you to reach out to our Consumer Liaison Service on 6458 1444 or by email on wnhscls@health.wa.gov.au. They will put you in touch with a member of our EC leadership team, who would value an opportunity to discuss your experience in more detail and make arrangements for ongoing care as required.

Thank you again for reaching out, and I hope we hear from you soon.

Kind regards,
Delaney
