I have been to the Geraldton ED twice recently in the early hours of the morning as my toddler and baby have had breathing difficulties due to croup. The entire experience from triage through to leaving was faultless and my sons were given a very high level of care. The triage nurse was caring and gentle but also efficient.
We saw the same doctor both times, Dr Daniel. He was incredible. Listened carefully, communicated his treatment plan clearly and was gentle and compassionate with my sons. He did not dismiss my concerns and trusted my observations as their mother. He also gave me information on how to prevent further trips to the ED which I really appreciated. The nurse my baby had was also top notch. She interacted beautifully with my baby and was responsive to any alarms and any concerns I had. We had been in there for a few hours so he could be observed and she offered me a cup of tea and sandwiches which was such a relief.
Thank you so much WACHS for caring for my sons so well and giving me the tools to manage croup safely at home and hopefully prevent further middle of the night ED trips.
