"Seeming apathy and uncaring attitude from pathology staff"

About: PathWest Manjimup Collection Centre

(as a service user),

Normally I would only write about a positive experience however my child had a similar experience recently. Recently I took my grand-child to pathology for bloods. One of the staff stated that they did not want me to bring in my other two young grand-children (it was school holidays) as the room was too small - I stated that I was able to do this at Pemberton pathology recently but they said the room there was bigger - I said I was not happy to leave them in the waiting room where I couldn't see them. While we were all in the room (I felt there was plenty of room) another staff came and looked in disapprovingly.

My child had to return today as one of the tubes for my grand-child had not been collected - they were upset about this as they don't like the procedure.

When they arrived one of the staff was at the computer and ignored my child standing there for several minutes - my child didn't know what to do as on a previous occasion they pressed the bell as instructed (my child stated they thought pressing the bell was to alert another staff member and the person at the computer was not to be interrupted) and I understand the  staff member at the computer was very rude to my child from that moment. I too have had this experience where you present to the pathology window and that particular staff member ignores you rather than acknowledging your presence and asks you to 'take a seat'.

When my child and grand-child were in the room, the staff member stood in front of my grand-child and waved the tourniquet at them. My child told me they had to say to their child, 'I think they want you to roll up your sleeve or take off your jumper'. It would've been so much nicer if the staff member had asked my grand-child to roll up their sleeve!

I wish to remain anonymous but want you to know we are very unhappy with the service and want the staff spoken to so that this treatment does not continue - I would also like to be notified when this has happened.
