"MGP King Edwards."

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I went through MGP at KEMH for the birth of my second child. Coming off from a less than desirable experience with my first baby I wanted a different approach this time and so I went through MGP and I am so unbelievably glad I did. My Midwives were amazing. I had two midwives assigned to me. It absolutely makes a difference having one to two people directly helping with your care. Being able to phone someone when you have an issue and speak to someone who knows you and your medical information when giving advice was great. Having consistency and continuity of care made a huge difference to me and the Midwifes themselves are such wonderful, knowledgeable people, many of whom I will never forget the care they gave me during this journey, it helped make this experience a really positive one. I really felt like my concerned were being listened to and addressed each time. My ideas for how I wanted my birth to go were listened to and supported.

I had a few complications that required closer monitoring, such as extra ultrasounds etc and having someone aware of what's going on and not having re-explain everything was, in general, really great.

For the labour and birth I was lucky for it to be successful and I truly believe MGP is what helped the entire process be positive. I ended up needing to be induced which I was disappointed by due to the induction with my firstborn being so awful. Thankfully it wasn't a bad experience for me this time and I'm grateful for my midwife who was aware of my previous experiences and my hopes for this birth going into it and was able to help even further by advocating where needed and explaining everything to me so I could make informed decisions and get the desired outcome that I wanted, while keeping us safe.

On top of that, they were calm and encouraging and helped me through a very painful, (Pitocin) induced, very quick delivery!

I genuinely don't have anything negative to say. During the pregnancy itself I received great care from a knowledgeable midwife who was the "primary" midwife allocated to me and who I saw for a majority of my appointments. Due to circumstances she was unavailable for the birth so the "secondary" midwife allocated to me was there and she was wonderful during my birth. (I did see her during my pregnancy also for an appointment so this wasn't a blind meeting) I couldn't have been blessed with better women for this pregnancy and i am sincerely thankful for the level of care I was shown. Each concern during pregnancy addressed and each concern during labour, eased with the knowledge and compassion of two incredible people.

I have recommended MGP to all friends and family who are/will be having children and I would absolutely utilise this service if I ever decide to have more kids of my own. I wish there were more services for women like this one across Perth.

Dear Joayh56,

Congratulations on the birth of your second baby. We’re grateful that you’ve taken the time to share about your positive experience with the Midwifery Group Practice (MPG) team at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH). This is especially lovely to hear after what you describe as a less than desirable experience with your first baby.

Care is an important value to us, and your positive experience is a credit to the team who supported you and your family at this exciting time. At WNHS, we strive to provide the very best care to our patients, and it is clear from your feedback how much the support, dedication, and commitment of our team gave you the encouragement to birth your baby in a safe and secure environment.

Your gratitude shows right through your story, and we will be sure to pass your feedback to the MGP team.

Wishing you and your family all the best,

Delaney
