Mum was acting very out of character aggressive swearing and very forgetful we put some of it down to age (mum is in her 80s) but when she became so angry and swearing I took her to the dr. His opinion was we will do some blood tests and if that shows nothing we’ll a brain scan but he thought it was early onset dementia.
Well the tests showed nothing out of the ordinary so we made an appointment for a scan which we had to wait 2 months for so mum continued to stay at home. She had someone staying with her but they had to go they to Perth and my brother and myself visited mum the day after they left. It was obvious she was in a great deal of distress so my brother took mum to the hospital and she was admitted straightaway and the scan was brought forward.
I took mum to Bunbury hospital for the scan and as soon as mum was wheeled out from the scan we were taken to emergency and I was told mum had a massive aggressive brain tumor and it was terminal.
I called my brother and sister and we were all shocked and devastated but decisions had to be made there and then. We all knew mums thoughts and wishes about her care if anything like this happened so we made the hard choices and brought her back to Manjimup hospital to make her comfortable.
I had the opportunity to meet with the social worker at the manjimup hospital Michelle. Without her help I believe this situation would have been absolutely unbearable, her guidance and caring and calming nature was a blessing. I have no words to express how thankful we all are to her. Mums time with us is now very short. We are all devastated and so not ready to have her leave us so we spend all the precious time we can with her while she is here.
