"Grandparent admission and care"

About: Sale Hospital

(as a relative),

My grandparent was recently admitted to acute from the emergency department on the background of ongoing loose bowels. They had routine investigations, however, was required to stay in hospital for 3-4 days. We visited on the 3rd day and had to source their toothbrush, comb and glasses from their belongings so they could read the paper and brush their dentures/comb their hair. My grandparent had not been washed or showered since admission. I believe this is not an acceptable standard of care.

Dear giraffemq34

My name is Mandy Pusmucans and I am the Director of Nursing at Sale Hospital. Please accept my apologies for the care your grandparent experienced, and I would appreciate it if you could pass this on to your grandparent.

This is not the excellent nursing care that we aspire to. We have worked hard to define what "excellence" means in our nursing care, and the fundamentals of comfort, hygiene, dignity and respect are very important to us.

Your feedback will enable us to reflect and improve. It would be helpful to me and the nursing team, if you felt you could make contact and provide more detail. You can reach me on 03-5143 8512 or by email at mandy.pusmucans@cghs.com.au

Again, thank you for raising your concerns and I hope to hear from you.

Kind regards

Mandy
