"Communication in day surgery"

About: Leongatha Memorial Hospital

(as the patient),

I recently had day surgery, went under a general anaesthetic.

Only issue was, it was a 10:30am admission, after the admission nurse gave me the basket of stuff to change and into I went into the corridor to wait. After 2 minutes, a couple near me left and I was there by myself,. That was at 11:10am and I didn’t get taken in until 1:30pm. Over 2 and a quarter hours. They explained to me that they were down a nurse, which I understand slows things down a bit. The problem was not one person came and said, sorry we are slow. I feel they need to work on their communication when it comes to that.

Apart from that it was all good.

Dear sigmapy47

Thank you for your feedback.

I am sorry to hear that you had such a long wait, and I apologise that we didn't get this right for you. It would be our expectation that staff communicate delays and apologise when this occurs. I will ensure that we discuss this with staff in order to improve communication.

I hope you are recovering well.

Regards

Lou
