"No physiotherapy services in ED"

About: Perth Children's Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I had to take my child to PCH ED after they subluxed their shoulder a recent weekend but the wait time was so long we left and returned on the Monday morning. The wait time on that morning was not as bad but I was very surprised to find out that Physiotherapist do not manage these injuries in PCH ED. When I thought I might have broken my ankle a few months ago I went to ED at a metropolitan hospital and was looked after by a Physiotherapist who looked after me from beginning to end. I did not need to see a doctor, did not have to wait too long and the treatment and explanations were top notch while some of the patients were still in the wait room at the front when I left. Why are there no Physiotherapists in ED at PCH to take care of these injuries?

Dear anonymous589

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. It is important for us to hear about the services we provide from the perspective of parents and carers.

We have received similar feedback from families and I am pleased to let you know that we are currently working towards a model of care for advanced practice Physiotherapy management of children with musculoskeletal injuries in the Emergency Department.

I hope this provides reassurance that we have listened to the feedback we have received which will assist in improving services and reduce waiting times for children to be seen with these types of injuries.

I hope that your child is recovering well from their injury.

Warm regards,

Tony
