"PET scan at Nuclear Medicine"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / Campus Centre 2 - Nuclear Medicine Department

(as the patient),

From my arrival all the staff I dealt with were very friendly, polite and helpful.

I did have a major concern however and that was the claustrophobic effect I knew I would experience being inside the "doughnut". Again, the staff were very sympathetic and promised to give me some sedation prior to the actual scan. Unfortunately, the 5mg of valium I was given had little or no effect and as such the whole scan experience was very stressful.

I fully understand the hospital has to exercise care with such medication, but I did emphasise several times my stress concerning the procedure.

Technician/nurse(?) James was particularly helpful and assisted me through the event.

Notwithstanding the stress aspect I would like to express my  sincere thanks to all concerned.

Thank you,

septemberyx76

Dear septemberyx76,

Thank you for your sharing your experience regarding your PET scan at our hospital.

We understand that undergoing PET scans can be challenging, especially when managing claustrophobia. We are sorry to hear the valium provided did not alleviate your discomfort as anticipated.

We strive to deliver empathetic, person centred care and are grateful that you felt supported by our team during your visit. Your feedback is invaluable and we will ensure that your appreciation is passed on to James and all the team members involved in your care.

Warm Regards,

Frances Calabria

Deputy Chief, Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Department
