"Renal Dialysis"

About: Albany Health Campus / Renal Dialysis

(as the patient),

First off I'd like to praise the doctors, nurses and orderlies I have seen at Albany Health Campus.

I'm in the process of getting to home dialysis. Originally thought we would install home dialysis unit to one of our existing caravans. The home dialysis technician came and okayed our set up.

We got thinking and have decided we would get a new unit along the lines of 6m x 2.4m insulated panel unit either transportable or on wheels for towing as per caravan. The unit to have chemical toilet, wash basin and shower in one end. With small sink and bench in main area sufficient for making tea/coffee/sandwich.

Unit to have reasonable window areas for light and airy feel.

Access via sliding door with steps or preferably a ramp for wheelchair.

Our thoughts were that at the moment I need 2 x 4 hours per week and outside of that we could bring it to Albany to provide another dialysis unit.

I have no idea if this is workable but at the very least it would be a ready made unit for someone else when I eventually kick the bucket.

Dear Khameleon,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion and for your kind words about our staff at Albany Health Campus.

Your innovative approach to home dialysis is inspiring, and the plan for a mobile unit is certainly an interesting idea. It's great to hear that you're considering the broader community by offering the unit for use in Albany. We recommend discussing this further with your private home dialysis provider to explore the feasibility and any necessary regulations.

We wish you the best in your health journey.

Regards

Wendy McKinley

Update posted by Khameleon (the patient)

Thanks for your comments Wendy,

We are in the very early stages at present and certainly will be discussing the set up and regulatory requirements with our dialysis provider for it to be available for general use as we move forward.

Regards,

Khameleon
